Cuban Hogfish

Cuban Hogfish ([Bodianus pulchellus]) and it is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration (deep purples, reds, and yellows), bold personality, and unique hogfish body shape.

Males typically display more vibrant and contrasting colors, with brighter purple and red tones, while females/juveniles are more subdued, often showing yellowish bodies with purplish accents until they mature.

They reach about 10–12 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots and grazing, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, krill, copepods, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.

Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
