Coral Sea Flavicauda Anthias

The Coral Sea Flavicauda Anthias (Pseudanthias cf. flavicauda) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright yellow tail, vivid orange and pink body coloration, sleek size, and dynamic swimming patterns. Males typically exhibit more intense coloration with elongated dorsal fins and a striking bright yellow caudal (tail) fin, while females/juveniles are smaller with softer shades of orange and pink, and lack the extended fins of mature males.

They reach about 4–5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons to allow for ample swimming space.

Provide live rock for hiding and territory establishment, open swimming areas, and a secure lid since many anthias species are prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH between 8.1–8.4.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets, fed multiple times daily to support their high metabolism. With proper care, the Coral Sea Flavicauda Anthias makes a colorful and energetic addition to reef aquariums.
