The Coral Demoiselle Damselfish (Neopomacentrus nemurus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its iridescent blue sheen, small schooling size, and hardiness in marine aquariums.
Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may become more territorial, especially when defending a space, while females/juveniles are smaller, less vivid, and generally more passive.
They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and open swimming areas, a stable sandbed, and stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as damselfish can be prone to jumping.
Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this hardy species makes a vibrant, active, and low-maintenance addition to reef aquariums.
