Conch Cardinalfish

The Conch Cardinalfish (Astrapogon stellatus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black-and-white banded coloration, elongated fins, and relatively small size. Males typically exhibit slightly more vibrant coloration and may be more territorial during breeding periods, while females and juveniles tend to have a more subdued appearance. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide plenty of live rock and hiding spots to mimic their natural reef environment, along with open swimming space. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020-1.025, temperature between 72-79°F, and pH ranging from 8.1-8.4. A secure lid is recommended since many cardinalfish species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes. With proper care, the Conch Cardinalfish makes a standout and peaceful addition to a reef or marine aquarium.
