Common Cleaner Wrasse

Common Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) is the most iconic of all cleaner wrasses, instantly recognizable by its sleek black stripe running from snout to tail along a shimmering white and blue body. Peaceful, reef-safe, and highly active, it establishes “cleaning stations” in the aquarium, where other fish will line up to be groomed as this wrasse removes parasites and dead tissue. It reaches about 5 inches in size and is a nonstop swimmer, always adding energy and fascination to the display. Best kept in aquariums of at least 75 gallons, with lots of live rock for structure and hiding places, very stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~75-82°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since wrasses are known jumpers. Diet is specialized in the wild (mainly parasites and mucus), so in captivity you must supplement with enriched frozen mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality meaty preparations. With consistent care, this species can thrive while also helping keep tankmates healthy.
