The Colored Reef Anemone (Condylactis gigantea) is an invertebrate species that is semi-aggressive and considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant tentacle coloration, flowing patterns, large size, and striking appearance.
Males typically cannot be distinguished visually, as this species lacks obvious sexual dimorphism, while females and juveniles also appear similar, with reproduction rarely occurring in captivity.
They reach about 12–16 inches in diameter when fully expanded and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons or larger, as their wandering behavior requires ample space.
Provide a stable sandbed and live rock for secure attachment, along with open swimming space around the anemone to prevent stinging nearby corals or invertebrates. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and strong lighting to support their symbiotic zooxanthellae.
While photosynthetic, their diet should also consist of meaty offerings such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, and chopped silversides, fed directly 1–2 times per week.
With proper care and careful placement, this anemone makes a standout addition to the aquarium, admired for both its size and vivid colors.
