Colored Pyramid Sea Star

The Colored Pyramid Sea Star (Pharia pyramidata), which is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid coloration, unique pyramid-shaped bumps, and medium size. Males typically cannot be easily distinguished from females in captivity, while females/juveniles are similar in appearance but smaller and less vividly colored. They reach about 6–8 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.

Provide a sandy substrate with scattered live rock and hiding spots, along with some open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many sea stars can crawl or fall. Diet should consist of small invertebrates such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and detritus from the tank substrate. With proper care, this sea star makes a striking and standout addition to a marine aquarium.
