Colored Fancy Nudibranch

The Colored Fancy Nudibranch (Glossodoris sp.) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, flowing mantle edges, and unique body patterns. Males typically show similar coloration to females, as these invertebrates are hermaphroditic and do not display distinct sexual dimorphism. Juveniles are often smaller with less vivid coloration, which intensifies as they mature.

They reach about 2–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and exploration, as well as a soft sandbed for resting. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended since nudibranchs are known to wander and may climb out of the tank.

Diet should consist of species-specific sponges and sometimes sessile invertebrates, as most Glossodoris nudibranchs are obligate sponge feeders. They typically do not accept prepared foods such as mysis, brine, or pellets, making long-term survival in captivity challenging unless their natural diet is available. With proper conditions and specialized care, this nudibranch makes a standout, though delicate, addition to advanced reef aquariums.
