Cockerel Wrasse

Cockerel Wrasse (Pteragogus enneacanthus) is a semi-aggressive, reef-with-caution wrasse that features a mottled reddish-brown body with fine white stripes, dark lateral blotches, and in juveniles a prominent ocellus on the gill cover. Males may develop filamentous extensions on the first two dorsal spines as they mature. It reaches about 6 inches (15 cm) maximum length. Best housed in tanks of at least 80 gallons, with plenty of rockwork and caves for hiding, moderate flow, stable reef parameters (SG ~1.020-1.025; temp ~72-78°F; pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid because wrasses are known jumpers. Diet should be carnivorous: small crustaceans, mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood.
