Clarion Angelfish

The Clarion Angelfish (Holacanthus clarionensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its vibrant orange-red coloration with striking blue highlights around the fins and face, its unique patterning, and medium-large size. Males typically display brighter, more intense coloration with pronounced blue accents and are more territorial, while females and juveniles are slightly paler, smaller, and less aggressive. They reach about 10–12 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons. Their habitat should include plenty of live rock for grazing, hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space, along with a secure lid to prevent jumping. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, algae sheets, and high-quality marine angelfish pellets, with occasional vegetable supplementation. With proper care, the Clarion Angelfish makes a visually striking and standout addition to a large, well-maintained marine aquarium.
