The Citrinus Clown Goby (Gobiodon citrinus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright yellow to orange coloration, often speckled with blue or white markings, small size, and perch-like behavior among coral branches. Males typically are slightly larger and may display courtship behaviors such as cleaning or fanning eggs, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller and more reclusive when not breeding. They reach about 1.5 to 2 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons, though larger tanks are preferred if housing multiple gobies or SPS corals.
Provide plenty of live rock and branching SPS coral (like Acropora) for perching and shelter, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid as small gobies can jump when startled. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and micro pellets, and with proper care, this fish makes a colorful and charming addition to nano or reef aquariums.
