The Cherry Anthias, (Sacura margaritacea) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant cherry-red coloration, elongated fins, and active swimming behavior. Males typically display intense, bright red hues with extended fin rays, making them one of the more striking anthias species. In contrast, females/juveniles have a more subtle orange-red coloration, with shorter fins and a more rounded body shape. They reach about 4–5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons.
Provide live rock for hiding, open swimming space, and a secure lid since many anthias are prone to jumping. Stable water parameters should be maintained (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).
Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets, with multiple feedings per day to accommodate their high metabolism. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to any reef aquarium.
