Central Pacific Anthias

Central Pacific Anthias (Pyronotanthias aurulentus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant orange coloration with subtle golden hues, striking patterns, and elegant elongated fins. Males typically display more intense coloration with elongated fin rays and more pronounced territorial behavior, while females/juveniles are smaller, less colorful, and more peaceful in nature. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons. Provide a well-structured environment with plenty of live rock for hiding spots and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many anthias species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, bringing both color and dynamic activity.
