The Canary Deep Water Damselfish (Chrysiptera galba) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant solid golden-yellow coloration, hardiness, and rarity as a deep-water species.
Males typically defend small territories and display slightly brighter coloration during breeding, while females/juveniles tend to be a bit smaller and may show slightly less intense coloring.
They reach about 2.5–3 inches (6–7.5 cm) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots and territory, as well as some open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout, vibrant addition to a reef aquarium, especially for hobbyists looking for a rare and unique specimen.
