Unless marked, all livestock comes with our 15-Day Guarantee. You will receive a video of your fish eating before shipment. For size preference please add a note on your order and we will match your fish to your requested size. If you just want the fish without our QT process, Please email us directly with your order number. Please note this does waive the 15 day guarantee.

The California Sea Hare (Aplysia californica) is a peaceful invertebrate species that is generally considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its unique coloration, large size, grazing behavior, and fascinating biology.
Males typically do not differ significantly in appearance from females; both sexes display a mottled brown to reddish-purple body with smooth skin and soft parapodia. Juveniles are usually smaller and lighter in color, becoming darker and more patterned as they mature.
They reach about 12–16 inches in length at adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons to provide sufficient space and grazing areas. A tank should include ample live rock for natural algae growth, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space. Ensure stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and always use a secure lid, as some sea hares may crawl up and out of the tank.
Their diet should consist primarily of natural algae (macroalgae and microalgae), supplemented with nori sheets or other algae-based foods. They are not carnivorous and will not accept meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp.
With proper care and a steady supply of algae, the California Sea Hare can make a standout addition to the aquarium, serving both as a fascinating display invertebrate and as an effective algae grazer.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
