Bumble Bee Shrimp

The Bumble Bee Shrimp (Gnathophyllum americanum) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking black-and-yellow bumblebee-like coloration, bold banded patterns, and tiny yet eye-catching appearance. Males are generally smaller and more slender, while females and juveniles appear slightly rounder in body shape. They reach about 1 inch in size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons. These shrimp thrive in systems with live rock, plenty of hiding spots, and a fine sandbed, as they prefer crevices and shaded areas to retreat into. They require stable water parameters (salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as many ornamental shrimp species are adept at escaping. Their diet should consist of meaty offerings such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and prepared foods, supplemented with natural foraging on detritus and biofilm. With proper care, the Bumble Bee Shrimp makes a standout and unique addition to reef aquariums, adding both beauty and activity to the system.

Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
