Bridled Burrfish Pufferfish

The Bridled Burrfish Pufferfish (Chilomycterus antennatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking mottled coloration, spiny body, large expressive eyes, and curious, charismatic personality.

Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and may become more territorial, while females and juveniles usually have more subdued markings and tend to be less aggressive. They reach about 10–12 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since these fish are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of hard-shelled foods such as clams, shrimp, crabs, snails, along with mysis shrimp, krill, and other meaty marine fare to help wear down their continuously growing teeth. With proper care, this fish makes a standout and fascinating addition to the aquarium.
