The Brazilian Electric Stingray (Narcine brasiliense) is a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its rounded disc, sandy-brown coloration with irregular mottled patterns, small size compared to other rays, and its unique ability to generate mild electric shocks for defense.

Males typically have smaller disc diameters, longer claspers, and more active courtship behaviors, while females/juveniles are larger-bodied, more robust, and grow faster in early stages. They reach about 15–20 inches (disc + tail length) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 250+ gallons, with emphasis on wide bottom space.

Provide a fine sandbed (to prevent abrasions), limited live rock arranged to maximize open swimming areas, and some hiding spots where the ray can partially bury itself. They thrive in stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is important since rays may climb or jump when startled.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, small crustaceans, clam meat, squid, and chopped shrimp, occasionally supplemented with high-quality sinking marine pellets. With proper care, the Brazilian Electric Stingray makes a fascinating and rare addition for advanced marine aquarists, offering both visual appeal and the unique trait of electricity generation.
