Boomerang Triggerfish

Boomerang Triggerfish (Sufflamen bursa), a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking boomerang-shaped body pattern, contrasting colors of gray, white, and yellow, and unique scythe-like dorsal fin.

Males typically display slightly more vivid coloration and a more prominent dorsal fin, while females/juveniles are smaller, with more muted colors and less pronounced fins. They reach about 10 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons. Provide a sandy substrate, live rock for hiding spots, open swimming space, and ample structures to explore, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid, since many triggerfish species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae-based foods, and with proper care, this fish makes a striking and active centerpiece in a marine aquarium.
