Blunthead Wrasse (Thalassoma amblycephalum) is a striking, fast-moving wrasse that brings vibrant color and energy to larger aquariums. Juveniles are usually yellow with a black ocellus on the dorsal fin, while adults develop brilliant blends of green, turquoise, and red striping with the distinctive “blunt” head profile that sets them apart. This species reaches up to 7 inches in size and is best kept in tanks of at least 125 gallons, with plenty of swimming space, rocky structures for shelter, sandy bottom areas, and a secure lid as they are prone to jumping. While hardy, they can be semi-aggressive and should be paired with other robust tankmates; they are not recommended for delicate reef systems, as they may disturb smaller invertebrates. Their diet should be protein-rich and varied, including mysis, brine shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods to maintain their health and bold coloration.
