Blue & White Pufferfish

The Blue & White Pufferfish (Arothron meleagris) is a semi-aggressive species that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking blue-and-white coloration, bold patterns, and quirky personality. Males typically grow larger and may display more territorial behavior, while females and juveniles remain smaller with subtler markings.

Reaching an adult size of 12–18 inches, this species requires a large aquarium of at least 180 gallons, equipped with live rock for grazing and hiding, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space, along with a secure lid since puffers are prone to jumping. They thrive in stable marine conditions with salinity between 1.020–1.025, temperatures ranging from 72–79°F, and a pH of 8.1–8.4. Their diet should consist of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, clams, krill, and hard-shelled invertebrates to help wear down their continuously growing teeth, along with occasional high-quality frozen foods or marine pellets. With proper care, the Blue & White Pufferfish makes a standout and charismatic addition to a large marine aquarium.
