The Blue Velvet Angelfish (Centropyge deborae) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its deep midnight-blue coloration, subtle lighter edging, compact size, and rarity in the aquarium trade.
Males typically exhibit slightly larger size and bolder coloration, while females and juveniles are smaller and may show more subdued tones. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, along with open swimming space, a stable sandbed, and a secure lid since they may jump when startled.
Water parameters should be stable with salinity at 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. Their diet should consist of a mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, marine algae, and spirulina-based foods. With proper care, this rare dwarf angelfish makes a stunning and unique addition to the aquarium.
