Blue Torpedo Goby, Les Villages

Blue Torpedo Goby, Les Villages (Malacanthus latovittatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its slender elongated body, vibrant blue and yellow longitudinal stripes, impressive size, and unique darting swimming behavior reminiscent of a torpedo. Males typically are larger and more territorial, often displaying brighter coloration during breeding periods, while females/juveniles are smaller, less vividly colored, and tend to be more secretive. They reach about 12 to 16 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock with crevices for hiding, and ample open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid, as this species can jump when startled. Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, pellets, and occasional algae-based supplements, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to larger marine aquariums.
