Blue Spotted Tamarin Wrasse

The Blue Spotted Tamarin Wrasse (Anampses caeruleopunctatus) is a large and showy species that demands space and expert care. Males grow up to ~14-inches, females somewhat smaller (~11-inches), both exhibiting dramatic coloration: males with olive-brown to green body, accented by vertical blue lines on each scale, and bright blue markings on dorsal, anal, and caudal fins; females showing blue dots on each scale, a brown back fading toward red near the belly, and subtler patterns on the head. Best kept in tanks of 120+ gallons with plenty of live rock, caves/crevices, a deep fine sand bed for burrowing and nighttime resting, very stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-78°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a tight-fitting lid since these wrasses can jump. Diet should be rich in live copepods/amphipods, frozen mysis and brine shrimp, plus high-quality meaty pellets once acclimated. Reef-safe in general, but may nip at very delicate inverts and should be kept with peaceful tankmates.
