For size preference please add a note on your order and we will match your fish to your requested size. The Blue Rim Derasa Clam (Tridacna derasa) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking mantle with bold striping, iridescent blue rim highlights, and large, smooth shell structure. Its vivid coloration and unique patterns make it a highly sought-after showpiece in reef aquariums.
Unlike fish, clams do not exhibit sexual dimorphism in visible traits—Derasa clams are protandric hermaphrodites, meaning they begin life as males and later develop female reproductive capability. Juveniles are typically smaller and less vibrant, while adults display more intense coloration and broader mantles.
They can reach about 20 inches in adulthood, making them one of the largest Tridacna species, and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons to accommodate long-term growth. Provide a stable sandbed or flat live rock surface for attachment, strong lighting for photosynthesis (as they host symbiotic zooxanthellae), and pristine water conditions with parameters of salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.
Diet should consist mainly of photosynthesis via their symbiotic algae, though juveniles under 3 inches benefit from supplemental feeding of phytoplankton. With proper lighting, water stability, and space, the Blue Rim Derasa Clam becomes a long-lived, centerpiece in the reef aquarium.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
