Blue Ribbon Eel

The Blue Ribbon Eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid blue and yellow coloration, elongated ribbon-like body, and unique dorsal fin. Males typically display a bright blue body with a yellow dorsal fin, while females and juveniles are darker, usually black, and smaller in size. They can reach up to 39 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons. Their habitat should include a deep sandbed, plenty of live rock with crevices for hiding, and open swimming areas, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4) and a secure lid to prevent jumping. The Blue Ribbon Eel thrives on a diet of live or frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, and occasionally chopped seafood or pellets, and with proper care, it makes a striking and captivating centerpiece for a large marine aquarium.
