Blue Maze Angelfish, Bali Aquarich

The Blue Maze Angelfish, Bali Aquarich (Chaetodontoplus cephalareticulatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking maze-like blue patterning, contrasting black and yellow coloration, medium size, and rarity as a captive-bred fish. Males typically display more intense coloration with bolder markings, while females and juveniles often appear with slightly muted tones and less defined patterns.

They reach about 7–8 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons to allow ample swimming space and stable territorial boundaries. The ideal setup includes live rock with plenty of hiding spots, caves, and open swimming areas, along with a sandbed for natural behavior.

Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is strongly recommended, as angelfish can be prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods and algae-based nutrition, including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, spirulina, and marine algae sheets. With proper care and attention, the Blue Maze Angelfish makes a rare and visually stunning centerpiece addition to a saltwater aquarium.
