Blue Maze Angelfish

The Blue Maze Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus cephalareticulatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking maze-like blue and black body patterns contrasted with bright yellow-orange facial markings. This rare angelfish is highly sought after by aquarists for its unusual coloration, elegant form, and relative rarity in the trade.

Males typically display bolder coloration and more defined maze patterns, while females and juveniles are usually more muted in tone with less intricate markings. They reach about 7–8 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons. An ideal setup includes abundant live rock for grazing and hiding, open swimming space, and a secure lid since angelfish may occasionally jump.

The Blue Maze Angelfish thrives in stable water parameters: salinity of 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH levels of 8.1–8.4. A varied diet consisting of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, marine algae, and sponge-based angelfish preparations will support optimal health and coloration. With proper care and attention, this species becomes a captivating centerpiece, adding both beauty and rarity to any advanced reef or fish-only aquarium setup.
