Blue Linckia Sea Star

Blue Linckia Sea Star (Linckia laevigata). It is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant blue coloration, smooth texture, star-shaped symmetry, and ability to graze on algae, making it both visually striking and beneficial for the aquarium ecosystem.

Males typically cannot be distinguished visually from females, as sexual dimorphism is minimal in this species. Females and juveniles share the same brilliant blue color, though juveniles may have slightly smaller or less vivid arms. They reach about 6–12 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed, plenty of live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming/foraging space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid, since many starfish species are prone to wandering or escaping.

Diet should consist of algae, biofilm, and microfauna on live rock; they occasionally graze on detritus or supplemental prepared foods like algae wafers or specialized invertebrate pellets. With proper care, this invertebrate makes a striking and functional addition to a marine reef aquarium.
