Blue Coral Banded Shrimp

The Blue Coral Banded Shrimp (Stenopus tenuirostris) is a peaceful invertebrate species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking blue and white banded coloration, elongated pincers, and unique graceful movements. Males typically display slightly larger claws and more vivid coloration, while females and juveniles tend to be smaller and less intensely colored. They reach about 2–3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Their environment should include a sandbed, live rock formations, and plenty of hiding spots, along with open swimming space, to mimic their natural habitat. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH from 8.1–8.4, along with a secure lid as these shrimp are prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets. With proper care, the Blue Coral Banded Shrimp becomes a visually striking and captivating addition to any reef aquarium.
