Blue Barred Ribbon Goby

Blue Barred Ribbon Goby (Oxymetopon cyanoctenosum) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated body, shimmering silver coloration with electric blue vertical stripes, delicate appearance, and rarity in the aquarium trade. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may grow slightly larger, while females/juveniles tend to be more reserved and exhibit similar but slightly duller coloration. They reach about 3.5 to 4 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for hiding spots, and gentle flow with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is highly prone to jumping. Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed high-protein pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
