Blue Back Colini Angelfish

The Blue Back Colini Angelfish (Centropyge colini) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration—featuring a deep blue back with a contrasting yellow-orange lower body—its small size, and its rarity in the aquarium trade.

Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and may grow a bit larger, while females and juveniles are usually smaller, with subtler color transitions. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons to provide sufficient swimming space and reduce stress.

Provide ample live rock with plenty of caves and hiding spots, as this species is naturally shy and secretive. A fine sandbed and stable rockwork help mimic their natural reef environment. Keep water parameters stable (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid, as many dwarf angelfish are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and filamentous algae, offered in small, frequent feedings to match their grazing nature. With proper care, the Blue Back Colini Angelfish makes a rare and striking centerpiece for advanced aquarists who appreciate unique and delicate reef inhabitants.
