Blacktip Morwong Drumfish

My species/animal is a fish — the Blacktip Morwong Drumfish (Cheilodactylus francisi). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive black-tipped fins, bold vertical striping, and elongated body shape.

Males typically develop slightly more intense coloration and may become territorial as they mature, while females/juveniles tend to have more subdued patterns and are generally more passive. They reach about 12–14 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons.

Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding, an open sandbed, and plenty of open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based offerings. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
