Blacklined Fang Blenny

Blacklined Fang Blenny (Meiacanthus nigrolineatus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking black lateral line, vibrant coloration, compact size, and unique venomous fang defense mechanism. Males typically display a more intense black stripe along the body, often with a brighter iridescent sheen, and are slightly larger and more robust than females. Females and juveniles generally have a subtler coloration with a less pronounced stripe and a more streamlined shape.

They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock, abundant hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, frozen meaty foods, and high-quality carnivore pellets. With proper care, the Blacklined Fang Blenny becomes a vibrant and fascinating addition to any marine aquarium, combining beauty, personality, and a touch of intrigue.
