Blackfin Damselfish

Blackfin Damselfish (Amblyglyphidodon melanopterus). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking silvery-green body, bold black-edged fins, compact size, and active swimming behavior.

Males typically display darker, more intense black fin coloration, especially during breeding displays, while females and juveniles are paler with less defined black fin markings. They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) in size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a habitat with a sandbed, live rock, abundant hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as damselfish can be prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae. With proper care, the Blackfin Damselfish makes a vibrant and standout addition to the aquarium, combining beauty, personality, and hardiness.
