Blackfin Coral Goby (Paragobiodon lacunicolus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its compact size, velvety brown to black coloration, contrasting black fins, and its tendency to live symbiotically among branching SPS corals such as Acropora. Males typically are slightly larger and may become more territorial during breeding, often guarding egg clusters within coral branches, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, more reclusive, and exhibit similar coloration. They reach about 1.2 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.
Provide branching live coral (ideally Acropora), plenty of live rock, and low-flow zones for perching, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many gobies are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of finely chopped meaty foods like mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and micro pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
