The Blackedge Moray Eel (Gymnothorax saxicola) is an aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking dark brown body adorned with golden spots and a distinctive black-edged tail. There are no significant visual differences between males and females, and juveniles share similar coloration patterns. Adults typically reach about 24 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons to allow adequate space for swimming and hiding. A proper setup includes a fine sandbed, plenty of live rock, and multiple hiding spots, along with open swimming areas. Water parameters should be kept stable, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4, and a secure lid is essential as these eels are known to escape from tanks. Their diet should consist primarily of meaty foods such as squid, octopus, and live or frozen feeder fish. With proper care and a suitable environment, the Blackedge Moray Eel makes a striking and standout addition to a large marine aquarium.
