Black Sailfin Blenny ([Atrosalarias fuscus]) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black coloration, large sail-like dorsal fin, algae-grazing habits, and active personality.
Males typically display a taller, more pronounced dorsal fin and deeper body coloration, while females/juveniles are slightly smaller with less prominent dorsal fins and lighter coloration.
They reach about 3–4 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide live rock with plenty of algae growth, hiding spots, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, offering both beauty and functional algae control.
