The Black Ice Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking marbled coloration, bold black-and-orange patterning, and hardy nature.
Males typically remain smaller and may exhibit submissive behavior such as “shaking” when paired, while females/juveniles are larger, more dominant, and may become territorial once established. They reach about 3–4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20–30 gallons.
Provide live rock structures with hiding spots as well as open swimming space, along with a stable environment: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential since clownfish can be prone to jumping.
Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a colorful, hardy, and captivating centerpiece in both reef and community aquariums.
