Black & Gold Chromis

The Black & Gold Chromis (Neoglyphidodon nigroris) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black body accented with vibrant gold highlights, bold patterns, moderate size, and hardy temperament. Males typically display more intense gold coloration and exhibit territorial behavior, especially during breeding periods, while females and juveniles have slightly duller coloration and are less territorial but remain active swimmers. They reach about 5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. This species thrives in environments with a sandbed, plenty of live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as they are prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and algae. With proper care, the Black & Gold Chromis is a visually captivating and lively addition to any marine aquarium.
