Bicolor Toby Pufferfish

The Bicolor Toby Pufferfish (Canthigaster bicolor) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking two-tone coloration (dark anterior body and lighter posterior), compact size, and curious personality.

Males typically show brighter coloration and may display more territorial behavior, while females/juveniles have subtler tones and are generally less aggressive.

They reach about 4 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with caves/hiding spots, open swimming space, and a fine sandbed for comfort, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, krill, enriched frozen foods, and occasional pellets or algae-based offerings to ensure balanced nutrition. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
