Bicolor Goatfish

Bicolor Goatfish (Parupeneus barberinoides) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, as it may consume small ornamental shrimp and crabs but poses no threat to corals or larger invertebrates. This striking goatfish displays a beautiful contrast of bright yellow on the front half of its body, transitioning to deep purple-black on the rear, with distinctive barbels used for foraging through sand and rubble in search of small prey. The clean color division and active hunting behavior make it both visually appealing and endlessly entertaining to watch. It can reach about 10-12 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 125 gallons or more due to their active swimming nature and sand-sifting behavior, with a deep sand bed, stable water parameters, and adequate swimming space, though they're generally peaceful toward fish tankmates. Its diet should include a mix of meaty foods—mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, marine pellets—supplemented with small live foods like blackworms or ghost shrimp, as this carnivorous species requires multiple daily feedings and benefits from variety to maintain its vibrant coloration and active foraging instincts.
