Bicolor Damselfish

Bicolor Damselfish (Stegastes partitus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking bicolor coloration — a vivid blue upper body contrasting with a bright yellow lower body — compact size, and bold personality.

Males typically display brighter, more vivid coloration and actively guard their territory, especially during breeding seasons. Females/juveniles are slightly less colorful, with more muted tones, and tend to be less territorial.

They reach about 3 inches (7.5 cm) in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a sandbed, live rock, and plenty of hiding spots along with open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters:

Salinity: ~1.020–1.025

Temperature: ~72–79°F (22–26°C)

pH: ~8.1–8.4

A secure lid is important since many damselfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and marine algae. With proper care, the Bicolor Damselfish makes a standout addition to the aquarium thanks to its vibrant coloration and active personality.
