Bennett's Butterflyfish

Bennett's Butterflyfish (Chaetodon bennetti) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, bold black eye-band, vibrant yellow body with blue markings, and graceful, disc-shaped form. Males typically do not differ significantly in appearance from females, although they may display slightly more vibrant colors during breeding behavior, while females/juveniles share similar coloration but may be smaller and slightly less vivid. They reach about 7 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, open swimming space, and a secure lid, since many species are prone to jumping. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of a varied mix including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine pellets, spirulina, and finely chopped seafood; some individuals may also graze on coral polyps or invertebrates, so caution is advised in reef tanks. With proper care, this fish makes a standout, visually stunning addition to the aquarium.
