Bellus Angelfish, Male

The Bellus Angelfish, Male (Genicanthus bellus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking sexual dimorphism, elongated fins, and vivid horizontal striping.

Males typically display white to silver bodies with bold horizontal black stripes, accented with yellow or orange highlights on the dorsal and caudal fins. Females/juveniles, in contrast, are more subdued, usually grayish with less dramatic striping, making the males especially eye-catching in a mixed group.

They reach about 7 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons, as they appreciate room to swim. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space, along with a secure lid since they are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, spirulina, and algae-based foods. A varied diet ensures proper coloration and health. With proper care, the Bellus Angelfish makes a standout, reef-safe addition to the aquarium, especially in larger reef systems where its beauty and peaceful temperament can truly shine.
