Bartlett's Anthias

The Bartlett's Anthias (Nemanthias bartlettorum) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking pink to orange coloration with yellow highlights, graceful swimming patterns, and shoaling behavior that adds dynamic movement to reef tanks. Males typically display brighter, more intense coloration with elongated dorsal and caudal fins, while females and juveniles are slightly smaller, less vividly colored, and tend to school together. They reach about 4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons, ideally with one male and multiple females to mimic natural social structure.

Provide abundant live rock for hiding and perching, along with a large open swimming area, and a secure lid, as anthias are active swimmers and prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellets or flakes formulated for carnivorous marine fish, ideally fed several times per day to match their high metabolism. With proper care, Bartlett's Anthias makes a vibrant and captivating addition to a reef aquarium, bringing color and activity to midwater areas.
