Barsnout Goby

Barsnout Goby (Elacatinus illecebrosus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking yellow head, blue to translucent body, and small, slender size. Males typically are similar in appearance to females but may be slightly more territorial during breeding, while females/juveniles share the same coloration and remain relatively small and shy. They reach about 1.5 to 2 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with crevices for hiding, a sandy substrate, and peaceful tankmates, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a varied mix of finely chopped mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality micro-pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
