The Barred Fin Moray Eel (Gymnothorax zonipectis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution. It is admired for its striking coloration and patterns, featuring a light brown body with dark brown bars and a distinctive white spot behind the eye. Males typically reach up to 19–20 inches in length, while females and juveniles display similar size and coloration. Adults should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons, with a setup that includes a sandy substrate, plenty of live rock for hiding spots, and open swimming space. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is highly recommended, as moray eels are prone to jumping. Their diet should consist primarily of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and small fish. With proper care, the Barred Fin Moray Eel makes a captivating and standout addition to the marine aquarium.
