Multibarred Angelfish

The Barred Angelfish (Paracentropyge multifasciata) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking vertical black-and-white bars, compact size, and unique shy nature.

Males typically display slightly larger size and may show more vivid contrast in their striping, while females/juveniles are smaller and can be more reserved in behavior. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves, crevices, and hiding spots to accommodate their shy and reclusive nature. They benefit from a mature reef system with established microfauna. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as angelfish can occasionally dart upward.

Their diet should consist of a variety of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and some marine algae or spirulina to round out nutrition. With proper care and attention to their more delicate feeding habits, the Barred Angelfish makes a rare and standout addition to marine aquariums.
