Banded Watchman Goby

The Banded Watchman Goby (Amblyeleotris sp.) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its bold horizontal banding, burrow-digging behavior, and symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp.

Males typically grow slightly larger, with more robust heads and may display subtle dominance behaviors, while females/juveniles remain smaller and more delicate in appearance.

They reach about 4–5 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, ample live rock for stability and hiding spots, and caves or crevices, along with a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality sinking pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
